The White Swan, Ampleforth

The White Swan pub is situated on Main Street in the village of Ampleforth, just on the edge of the North York Moors. The village itself lies in idyllic countryside (the Howardian Hills) with the impressive Ampleforth Abbey and College just to the east of the village. The White Swan is surprisingly spacious inside and a treat for those who love good food. The main bar and lounge/dining area boasts wooden flooring, oak beams and cream and pale green decor with large windows creating a light and airy area in which to dine. Alternatively, there is a more refined dining room for that special meal and a bar area with an open fire. In the summer months, the exterior patio area is a lovely spot for a drink and lunch in the sunshine.

The White Swan has an extensive menu with a variety of dishes on the evening menu ranging from around £10.50 - £14.75, with lighter lunches including sandwiches served with salad for around £4.75. Traditional dishes such as steak and ale pie and battered fish and chips are among the pub's favourites, whilst the specials board tempts diners with meals such as fresh dressed crab with new potatoes (£10.50), chicken with thai sauce (£11.75) and Gressingham duck.

The White Swan (not to be confused with the White Horse just down the road) is very popular at weekends so it is advisable to ring ahead and book a table (01439 788239).
