The Dales Festival of Food and Drink, Leyburn

Even though it was a pretty wet and miserable Sunday before the May Day Bank Holiday, the Dales Festival of Food and Drink held over three days in Leyburn was worth visiting. Entry to the event was half price on condition we buy a £1 program because we visited late in the afternoon, however all the food stalls were under one roof in a giant marquee and there was plenty to see and more importantly taste.
There were more than eighty exhibitors from the local area, each selling very tempting food and drink, and as with all theses shows, there was plenty of stuff to taste ranging such as cheese, sausages and liquors.
The theme of the festival was “Sustaining the Environment” and given that most of the suppliers were located within a fifty mile circle round Leyburn, it was a perfect time to stress the importance of reduced “food miles”.
The Dales Festival of Food and Drink was supported by Richmondshire County Council and as well as several fairground attractions, food kiosks there was also some agricultural farming displays and a very large beer tent that was sponsored by Daleside Brewery in Harrogate.
The weather may have been wet but we left with a large bag of goodies including some very nice sirloin steak and sausages from Taste Tradition in Thirsk.
