Hare and Hounds, Staxton

Staxton is a small village located about seven miles west of Filey on the A64 York to Scarborugh road and the Hare and Hounds is a pleasant road-side pub that offers good value food and is a perfect stop-off if you are heading to the East Coast.
We were actually heading back from Filey in the evening having found nowhere in the town that served food because everywhere appeared to close after 7 pm and so the Hare and Hounds, Staxton, was one of the first pubs we came across and very good it was too. The pub is divided into two main areas, the main bar to the right and the dining room to the left. The Hare and Hounds pub is clearly quite an old building as it has a lot of original features such as low ceilings and dark oak beams but what was most impressive was a good selection of food and some seafood such as fresh lobster and crab that you don't always find on the menu of a pub albeit one near the coast.
The lobster although advertised was not actually on the evening menu although we could have had a fresh crab salad for £8 which seemed very good value. In the end we plumped for scampi and a chicken fillet in bacon and cheese which came to £17 in total. The table next to us had ordered fish and chips, salmon and a sirloin steak. These were particularly impressive when they arrived, the fish and the steak were enormous and would have satisfied the biggest of eaters.
Our meals took a little while to prepare but there was absolutely nothing wrong with them whatsoever and it was very enjoyable to sit in a nice cosy pub and watch the sun go down out of the window whilst tucking into some good food. The pint of beer I had was also in good form, Black Sheep, and all in all the choice of pub had definitely been a success.
To sum up, the Hare and Hounds, Staxton offers good food at a good price in a nice setting and I can recommend it to anyone heading the direction of either Scarborough or Filey.
