The Barn Owl, Kingskerswell, South Devon

The Barn Owl is located in Aller Mills near Kingskerswell, just off the Torquay to Newton-Abbot road (A380) so is convenient to reach. The pub has recently been refurbished to a high standard and the interior is light and modern with wooden floors, tables and chairs. The Barn Owl is clearly popular with locals and visitors alike as the car park was packed. There was a pleasant atmosphere, efficient waiting staff and we found the food served to be excellent quality and good value for money with main courses from £7.95. The Barn Owl is owned by Hall and Woodhouse Independent Brewery and serves real ale.
The Barn Owl, Kingskerswell, had a number of chef's specials on offer in addition to the standard menu such as fresh smoked salmon starter, rocket and crayfish with cherry tomatoes and confit of duck with caramelised onion and carrot on a bed of garlic mash. I enjoyed the grilled tuna steak with grilled vegetables, pan-fried potatoes and onion chutney (£10.75). Others in our party ordered the steak with mushroom and french fries and the steak and Tanglefoot pie with mashed potato and vegetables, both of which were very tasty (£10 each).
The wine menu was good and reasonably priced with French Merlot (vin de pays de l'Aude) at £9 a bottle. The desserts were very tempting with a selection of puddings, parfaits or just scoops of Purbeck ice-cream. The choice included chocolate pudding.

The Barn Owl is happy to help you celebrate a birthday or celebration if you let them know beforehand and is also taking bookings for its special Christmas menu over the festive period (£15.95 per head for three courses plus coffee and mince pies) or even Christmas Day lunch at £44.95 a head for five courses.
