The Borough Arms - Bodmin, North Cornwall

One of the most popular stop-offs on the Cornish Camel Trail is The Borough Arms on the outskirts of Bodmin, which is situated on one of the old railway cuttings above the Camel Trail. Outside the Borough Arms there are some tables if you want to sit outside, as well as some bike rests, to which you can padlock your bicycles (if you are cycling).

Inside the Borough Arms there are a number of seating areas and tables as well as a welcoming bar, especially if you have just cycled from either Padstow or Wadebridge. The Borough Arms is open every day and you have the choice of either a bar meal, light snack or carvery, which like everything else on the menu at the Borough Inn, is very reasonably priced at £7.95 or £4.00 for children. The draught beer was also very good, especially the Sharps Doom Bar beer which is brewed locally.

The Borough Arms also separates the Bar Menu into two so that light snacks such as baguettes and jacket potatoes are own their own menu and all the starters and main courses are on the main menu.

All food at the Borough Arms must be ordered at a food point near the carvery, but the staff were very helpful and friendly and the service was very quick. We just ordered soup, paté and a cheese jacket potato, but it was good value and the bill came to just over £10.

Now I don't know where the Borough Arms get their potatoes from but when the food arrived there was enough for two people - I have never seen a potato that big!

To sum up, the Borough Arms is extremely good value for money and the perfect place to stop, especially if you are cycling along the Camel Trail.
