Strada - 75 Low Petergate, York

Of all the restaurants tucked down the narrow streets in York, Strada located on Low Petergate has to be one of my favourites. Offering a wide range of traditional Italian dishes in a modern contemporary restaurant, Strada sets the standard for all other Italian restaurants to follow.
Strada is a nationwide chain of Italian restaurants with some thirty restaurants scattered across the country from Newcastle to Exeter.
The service at the Strada in York was extremely impressive given that we were dining in a party of 30. Even allowing for the fact that we had ordered in advance, the staff still managed to serve everyone quickly and at the same time.
I had a delicious "Insalata Di Spinaci" to start with, which is essentially Smoked Pancetta Bacon served on a bed of baby spinach leaves and sliced avocado covered in parmesan cheese and dressing. It was a very appetising starter and very reasonably priced at £4.95. For my main course, I chose the "Piccante" pizza which was a very spicy affair but tasted wonderful and worth every penny of the £8.95.
There are also some nice touches by Strada on the tables such as complimentary filtered water in a glazed Grolsh style clear bottle and some hot chilli oil that added even more bite to the spicy "Piccante" pizza. The wine at Strada was also very good and the red "Via Nova" Merlot was very clean and drinkable and at £14.50 a bottle was not too overpriced.
To sum up there was very little to fault about the whole experience and I would certainly eat there again and recommend it to anyone wanting to eat out in the centre of York. It is also worth mentioning that the Strada in York do a very reasonable lunch menu as well with the "Piccante" pizza costing just £7.50 with a glass of wine or beer.
