Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Not to be confused with the car that was recently banned from taking part in a Norwich parade because it did not have a valid MOT certificate, the "real" GEN11 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was on show this weekend at Nunnington Hall and also giving rides round the village for winning bidders on Ebay who pledged money for a ride in this iconic vehicle.

The first thing that strikes you about the GEN11 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car is its size, it is very long (about 17 feet to be precise), but looks stunning with all its brass work, and attention to detail in the design which makes this car seem more authentic and older than it actually is. The GEN11 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car was built specially for the 1967 film and was actually registered at the DVLA with the licence plate GEN11.

There is also a GEN22 car that appears at some shows, but this car was commissioned more recently by MGM to promote the film and show. Several versions of the car were made for the film such as one which could sail on the water which was actually a speedboat with mock car body, but this car had to be road worthy, and engineered properly so that it could drive on sand and go down stairs

The current GEN11 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car is owned by Pierre Picton (seen driving below) and looks spectacular close up. Underneath the bonnet of Chitty, you will find a Ford V6 engine and the condition of the forty year old car was magnificent.
