Delphi Mountain Resort, County Mayo

Delphi Mountain Resort is a modern hotel and outdoor centre situated on the banks of the River Bundorragha, surrounded by forests and mountains, and just a few miles north of Leenane on the cusp of the Connemara National Park. The hotel is owned and managed by Rory and Aileen Concannon who have transformed this part of land into a very modern and sustainable ‘eco-escape’.
The design of the Delphi Mountain Resort is very environmentally friendly featuring a recycled copper and cedar tile roof and water for the complex is sourced from a mountain spring. They have also installed their own water treatment plant on site. The architecture of the Delphi Mountain Resort is designed to try and blend in with the landscape but at the same time offering guests plenty of natural light and views of the spectacular scenery, a good example of this being the bar area on the first floor above reception whose curved windows offer magnificent views of the mountains.
The rooms at the Delphi Mountain Resort range from €40 per night for a dorm room up to €300 per night for a two bedroom suite. The suites are extremely spacious and we were fortunate enough to spend three nights in one of the smaller suites consisting of lounge area, double bedroom and luxury bathroom. The oversized double beds with warm duvets and soft cotton sheets were extremely comfortable and it was difficult on some mornings to make it on time to breakfast, which is always a good sign of the level of luxury offered to guests at this impressive resort. The only thing that you don’t get at the Delphi Mountain Resort is a television in your room, the point being that this place is supposed to be an escape from normal life although there is Wi-Fi access available in the lounge room should you need to go online.
Food at the Delphi Mountain Resort is impressive too with head chef, Gerard Reidy, using locally sourced produce wherever possible to produce his menu. Guests also have the option of dining in the restaurant, bistro or bar. The buffet style breakfasts were also excellent, and an absolute must if you are planning a day’s hiking.
The staff at the Delphi Mountain Resort were very polite and the service excellent and for those wanting something even more relaxing, there are numerous treatments available at the resort’s spa or for a small additional cost, you can take advantage of the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi with views of the mountains.
It is always a sad day when a short stay at a luxury hotel comes to end, and this feeling was no different at the Delphi Mountain Resort which pretty much sums up what it has to offer.
