E J King’s, Clifden, Galway

E J King’s located on the Market Square, Clifden, is probably one of the best known places to eat in Clifden, Galway. Established many years ago by local businessman, E J King, this bar/restaurant serves some of the best seafood in the area as well as other meat and poultry dishes.

There is a vast menu to choose from at E J King’s, and meals are served every day from lunchtime onwards. The bar has been expanded into the next building at sometime and this allowed a very open ground floor bar area to be designed with actual bar itself being in the centre of this large room with tables and chairs all around.

As well as the standard menu at E J King’s, there was also a Summertime special offer of two or three courses from a set menu for either €19.95 or €22.95 which includes a free drink downstairs in the bar afterwards whilst you relax after your meal and enjoy some live music which normally starts at around 10.30 p.m. most evenings. This set menu is exceedingly good value and unless you want something special such as Oysters, Crab or Lobsters makes complete sense.

Having seen the choice on the set menu of E J King’s, we ordered Seafood Chowder and Hot Smoked Salmon Rosette Salad to start with followed by Chicken Supreme stuffed with potato and a Rib-Eye steak with peppercorn sauce. The food and service was excellent and we would have had a dessert were it not for the fact we were too full.

The bill including a couple of drinks came to €48 and then we went downstairs to the bar area, redeemed our complimentary drinks and sat down and enjoyed some live music courtesy of a couple of local musicians on the guitar and banjo.

All in all, and excellent evening was had at E J King’s and one we would definitely repeat if visit this part of Galway ever again.
