Hostelboat Anna Maria II, Amsterdam

If you're looking for a cheap and quirky place to stay in the vibrant city of Amsterdam, then Hostelboat Anna Maria II may well be for you. Basically it's a houseboat efficiently run as a hostel and is clean and convenient. Just 10 minutes walk from the central train station (via the pedestrian walkway past the floating Chinese restaurant), it's an ideal spot to use as a base to visit Amsterdam especially if you have an early morning flight as we did. It's also only about 10 minutes walk to the heart of Amsterdam with its endless bars, cafes and restaurants so ideally located for exploring the city.

The boat contains ten small cabins with bunkbeds and has a couple of separate showers (bring your own towel) and toilets as well as a fairly spacious dining area where breakfast is served. Be warned, the rooms are really tiny with a small port hole providing a little air and light - ours also had a washbasin in it - however the bunks were comfortable so as long as you don't mind it being a bit of a squeeze, then at just 25 euros a night including breakfast you can't really complain! If it's a pleasant evening, it's great to relax up on deck and admire the view of the docks and the city. Hostelboat Anna Maria II is certainly a novelty and as long as you know what's in store then it's a bit of fun to stay there!
