Lake Sagnes (Lac Des Sagnes), Thorame Basse - Haute Provence

Lake Sagnes is one of those lakes in Haute Provence that you probably would never know existed unless you happened to drive past it and that is probably unlikely given its location. Lake Sagnes is located halfway between Thorame Haute and Thorame Basse which themselves can be found by turning left off the D908 about 14 kilometres north of St Andre–les-Alpes when heading towards Colmars-les-Alpes and Allos.
The road itself is a very quiet and very flat road and merely follows the course of the river Issole back to St Andre-les-Alpes but it is definitely worth exploring as both the Issole Valley and Lake Sagnes are very picturesque.
The morning that we stopped at Lake Sagnes, it was a beautiful warm morning and there was not a cloud in the sky. As a result the lake had a beautiful aqua-blue colour like so many other Alpine lakes in the area and was really quite stunning. The other noticeable feature was that it was so quiet and with the backdrop of the mountains, quite a find – the perfect spot for a picnic.
Although not on the road to anywhere, the lake and the surrounding area are beautiful when the sun is shining and I am so glad we discovered them. Below is a short video panoramic of the lake.
