Matt Malloy’s, Westport, County Mayo

Matt Molloy’s is located on one of the main streets of Westport, County Mayo, and has reputation as being one of the best pubs in the area to enjoy a pint of Guinness and listen to some of the best live music from new and established acts currently gigging in the local area. Matt Molloy’s is also one of those Irish pubs that has genuine charm, character and original features and prides itself on serving one of the best pints of stout around, and at €3.80 a pint, this is really good value for Ireland.

Matt Molloy’s was our second experience of an Irish pub and really impressed we were too with the atmosphere even though it was a quiet Saturday lunchtime with only a few people drinking. The bar man was very polite and took great skill in pouring the perfect pint of Guinness which was as good as, if not better, than any that I had so far tasted whilst in Ireland.

The only shame about visiting Matt Molloy’s on a lunch time was the lack of live music, for which it has something of a reputation, however it was still nice to go in and get a feel for the place. The backroom at Matt Molloy’s had a nice roaring fire going which seemed to warm up the whole pub and if we ever found ourselves in Westport, County Mayo again, then we would definitely try to get to Matt Malloy’s on an evening so we could enjoy some of the live music first-hand and knock back one or two pints of the excellent Guinness once more.
