Royal Oak Inn – Nunnington, North Yorkshire

If you’re planning a visit to the National Trust property, Nunnington Hall, or are looking for somewhere to eat in Ryedale then the Royal Oak Inn at Nunnington may just be the ideal location. Situated about 100 yards from the village church on a steady decline, the Royal Oak offers a superior eating experience to most village pubs.
On entering the Royal Oak Inn from the car park you are treated to a lovely open plan bar and dining area tastefully furnished and making use of old oak beams to produce a deceptively open space. The walls have several pictures of huntsman on horseback and there are lots of decorations on the oak beams such as keys and old agricultural tools such as sheep shears and some horse brasses.
The bar at the Royal Oak Inn has a good selection of local cask ales such as Black Sheep, however it is the menu which really catches the eye with some very tempting starters and a really well thought out selection of main courses which includes Fillet Steak “au poivre” (£18.95), Crispy Duck and Sweet and Sour Prawns (£10.95 each). There was also a traditional Sunday Lunch consisting of Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding for £8.95, however as we were just wanting a light lunch we chose an open smoked salmon roll and a warm baguette.
The staff at the Royal Oak Inn, Nunnington, were extremely helpful and very accommodating and although the choice of warm baguette was either ham and cheese or brie, tomato and basil at £6.50 each, they were happy to do a ham and brie baguette at no extra cost.
The service at the Royal Oak Inn, Nunnington was also exceptionally good and there was a nice added touch that the cutlery and serviettes arrived on a wooden platter. The serviettes were a very high quality paper type and the cutlery most definitely superior to most pubs which showed very good attention to detail and made the meal even more enjoyable.

The food at the Royal Oak Inn, Nunnington, was extremely well presented and tasted every bit as good as it looked with fresh ingredients being used which meant that the sandwiches were also very good value for the money.
There was also a good selection of desserts priced from £4.50 to £4.95 as well as a cheeseboard, a choice of ports, liqueurs and then tea and coffee to finish.
To sum up, the Royal Oak Inn, Nunnington is an impressive pub offering very high quality food in a lovely setting at a not too unreasonable price and comes highly recommended.

Can confirm everything you say in your report - just been for our second visit and the lady behind bar (?owner) even helped us find a garage to fix our car exhaust! The new owners have made loads of improvements over the past 18 months (like the quality of cutlery and napkins) and with the nice weather the new patio garden is probably the best. We sat outside and my husband had the pork fillet with field mushrooms and I had a herb crusted salmon fillet and both were really good and we thought £11.50 was a very good price for the quality and quantity you get.
