Swallow Fish, Seahouses
If you are a fan of fresh fish and shellfish such as crab and lobster, then you must visit Swallow Fish in Seahouses. Swallow Fish has a long established reputation as the place to buy fresh fish and some of the best tasting crab and lobster along this stretch of Northumberland coastline.
Swallow Fish is also the only smoke house left in Seahouses and produce their own smoked salmon, haddock, mussels and herring. I personally prefer Swallow Fish’s Kippers to those produced by Robsons in Craster as they tend to be more meaty and more subtely smoked.
However it is the crab and lobster that has to be tasted to be believed. Swallow Fish was once featured on Rick Stein’s BBC2 programme and given one of his food champion awards although you can expect to pay a whole lot less for crab and lobster from Swallow than you would at Stein’s Padstow outlet for something just as fresh and tasty if not better.
Crab is usually available over the counter almost all year round, but if you want lobster, then it is best to book/reserve in advance and pick up in the afternoon so as to ensure you get the freshest fish from that morning’s catch.
If ever we self cater in Bamburgh or Seahouses, then you can guarantee we will visit Swallow Fish several times as they is nowhere else on the coast other than Robshaws in Craster and Eyemouth, north of the border in Scotland to buy fresh fish.
