The Bluebell Country Inn - Alne

Bluebell Country Inn Alne

Having heard very good word of mouth reports about the Bluebell Country Inn in Alne, North Yorkshire, last Saturday's meal proved to be one of the best value meals we've had all year. Alne is located about 12 miles north of York and the Blue Bell Inn (the only pub in the village) is one of the best kept secrets serving some wonderful food in very pleasant surrounds at an extremely reasonable price.

The car park at The Bluebell Country Inn was virtually full on our arrival (which is always a good sign) and when we entered through the rear entrance, nearly every table in the pub was being used for eating and there was not a drinker in site which was slightly ironic as the Bluebell Country Inn serves an excellent pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord as well as two other draught beers.

The choice of food at the Bluebell Country Inn - Alne, was excellent ranging from Battered Haddock at £9.50 to Fillet Steak at just under £18. There was also good variety for vegetarians and the starters looked original and very appetising. However it was the sweets and coffee coming from the kitchen that really caught the eye and were something very much to look forward to.

For starters, I chose the sauteed mushrooms in Wensleydale cheese which was delicious and the perfect appetiser to a large battered haddock which tasted very fresh and was very good value for money at under £10. My partner chose pork fillet topped with goat's cheese in a red wine sauce, which was equally as satisfying, but it was the ginger and lemon dessert that stole the show and the presentation had to be seen to be believed.

All in all the Bluebell Country Inn, Alne, is a fantastic restaurant and one I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone as it offers amazing food at an equally amazing price- Five Stars !
