The Cornish Arms - St. Merryn, North Cornwall

About 3 miles inland from the North Cornish coastline lies the small village of St Merryn, which has several pubs doing very good trade with holiday makers staying at popular seaside resorts such as Treyarnon Bay.
The Cornish Arms is a managed tied house currently under the ownership of the Cornish brewer, St Austell Ales. It has generous room for eaters and children with a large extension and there is ample room in the car park and a beer garden if you want to sit outside and soak up the sunshine.
The Cornish Arms has a very reasonably priced menu with sandwiches and ‘lite bites’ starting from £3.95 and then a good selection of meat and fish dishes as well as several dishes cooked using St Austell Ale.

I chose the local hand-made Pork and St Austell Tribute Ale sausages with mash and peas which came with a lovely rich onion gravy for a very reasonable £7.95. The braised lamb special and steak on our table also looked good and both were under £10 each. The St Austell ‘Tribute’ was also on good form that night and it was refreshing for it to be pulled the way we in the north prefer our beer, with a good head.
The staff at the Cornish Arms were very courteous and there was a nice warm atmosphere in the pub as well as a sensibly sized flat screen television so that we could catch up on the day’s news.
