The Feathers Hotel, Helmsley, North Yorkshire

The Feathers Hotel can be found in the market square in Helmsley, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It is a good place to stop for a light snack, pub lunch or even as a base to stay to explore the North York Moors.

On our recent visit to Helmsley, we were looking for a light lunch and the Feathers Hotel offered a variety of sandwiches and light bites as well as full pub lunches. They have a good range of traditional sandwiches with a choice of brown or white bread or baguettes (£3.95) or special sandwiches including steak baguette with onions and chips, perfect for lunchtime (£5.95). We chose the brie, bacon and cranberry baguette which was served with salad and crisps (£5.95). It arrived very quickly, was warm, fresh and delicious. The ham and mustard sandwich was tasty too and good value for money.

For anyone looking for a more substantial lunch, there were plenty of dishes on offer. The specials board included poached salmon with new potatoes and home-made chicken, ham and leek pie. On the main menu, the jumbo fish and chips that was served to the table next to us was enormous and looked delicious - at £9.95 it was certainly a reasonable price as well.

The Feathers Hotel has plenty of room in the main bar for diners, a separate bar for drinkers as well as a large function room to the rear.
