The Manifold Inn, Hulme End, Peak District

The Manifold Inn is a former coaching inn dating back over 200 years and is situated next to the bridge over the Manifold river at Hulme End, 1.5 miles from Hartington. Popular with visitors and locals alike, the Manifold Inn serves excellent home-cooked food at very reasonable prices and offers superb accommodation in a perfect spot, ideal if you wish to explore this corner of the Peak District on foot or on bikes. The Manifold Inn lies about 200 metres from the start of the Manifold Trail, a cycle/walking route from Hulme End to Waterhouses, and about 4 miles to Parsley Hay, the start of the wonderful Tissington Trail (off-road cycle trail) which is 13.5 miles long and ends at Ashbourne. For walking, it is very close to Dovedale and Wolfescote dale providing beautiful scenic walks.
The Manifold Inn offers a wide choice of home-cooked dishes with a specials board as well. Meals can be served in the bar, the dining room or the conservatory and start from £6.95 for sausages and mash in a creamy sauce to about £14.95 for duck. Portions are generous and the food and service was excellent. We sampled several dishes during our stay including pork loin with caramelised apples in a creamy Calvados sauce (£9.95) , lamb shank (£10.95), sirloin steak (£13.95) and sausages and mash (6.95). The starters and desserts were equally appetising and choices included deep-fried brie with cranberry sauce, deep-fried calamari and to finish off lemon meringue cheesecake. Two courses per person with a couple of drinks each came to approximately £35, which we felt was excellent value for money.
The Manifold Inn has good availability for accommodation which can be booked online (http://www.visitpeakdistrict.com/map/default.aspx?dms=2&pid=6004471) as it has a number of rooms both in the inn (£65 per room) or in the converted blacksmith's barn to the rear (£80 per room). Our room in the barn conversion was very comfortable with lovely decor and ensuite shower room. The Manifold Inn has excellent reviews and deservedly so. A stay here will most certainly be a highly enjoyable one.
