The Old Cheese Shop, Hartington

The Old Cheese Shop in Hartington is a quaint little shop in the centre of the village selling, as the name suggests, various cheeses made both locally and nationally with some more unusual speciality cheeses such as Twist and Stout and Sticky Toffee Cheddar. The village has a long history of producing cheese dating back to the 1870s and was one of the few villages allowed to produce stilton in its creamery, which has recently been taken over by Clawson.
A stop at the Old Cheese Shop in Hartington to buy cheese for a picnic if you are walking, or on the way home after a stay in the area, is recommended to stock up on cheese to take home or to give as a present. Cheese lovers may like to make a special trip to Hartington especially to purchase the excellent cheeses. The Old Cheese Shop is now under new ownership (2009) and the new owners appear to be doing an excellent job of keeping the Hartington cheese tradition up and running.

As one of the new owners of the Cheese Shop in Hartington I just wanted to say thank you for your kind comments.
As you probably saw for yourself we have made some changes to the shop and introduced a lot more cheeses (all British and many local to our shop).
We are also licensed now and have a good range of English wines and local beers.
It is always reassuring to hear people say they have enjoyed their visit to the shop.
We hope to see you again soon.
Claire
