The Slipway Hotel - Port Isaac, Cornwall

There are several good places to stay and eat in Port Isaac but one of the most popular and welcoming has to be the Slipway Hotel, which faces the harbour. Indeed the Slipway Hotel is just 20 yards from the Fish Cellars where fresh fish is packed and processed every day, so if the fish at the hotel isn’t fresh there really is something wrong.
The Slipway Hotel dates back as far as 1527 and in the 1800’s the ground floor was used as a ships chandelery. Now under the ownership of Mark and Kep Forbes since 2003, the Slipway Hotel has undergone some major renovations with a stylish contemporary entrance bar and eating area and covered area at the front for families and smokers. All the food at the Slipway Hotel is sourced locally in Cornwall wherever possible and head chef, Jon Poupard, takes great pride in ensuring food leaving his kitchen is of the highest standard.
The crab sandwich I sampled with a mouth watering pint of Sharp’s Doom Bar exemplified this and the presentation was excellent too. The luncheon menu at the Slipway Hotel also looked extremely good value compared to other eateries in Cornwall.

I was extremely impressed with the service and smooth operating of the busy bar area and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone visiting the area.
