The Water Rat, Ripon

If you are looking for the ideal pub in Ripon to enjoy a good pint and a bite to eat, then the Water Rat situated on the banks of the River Skell, just off the Boroughbridge Road, could be just what you are looking for.
In summer, The Water Rat, Ripon, is an incredibly popular pub because of its outside tables that overlook the River Skell and the large conservatory where you can eat by the riverside. The Water Rat, Ripon, is open every day from noon to normal closing time (11.30 pm) and has a very simple but appetising food menu which is served between 12 pm -2 pm at lunchtimes and 6 pm until 7.00 pm in the evening. The menu consists of dishes such as scampi (£6.95), steak and ale pie (£7.95) and bangers and mash (£6.95) with a light lunch section consisting of soup, cold sandwiches, hot baguettes and ciabatta with a range of fillings such as honey roast ham and English mustard (£3.50) or prawns Marie Rose (£3.50).
The day we visited, it was a perfect sunny day in late August, and so we decided to grab a table outside and enjoy the sun by the riverside like so many others that day. The beer was on extremely good form that day and the pint of Black Sheep ordered was one of the best I had had in long while. For lunch we ordered a hot roast pork stuffing baguette with gravy, salad and chips and a rare minute steak ciabatta with salad and chips. The bill for the lunch including the Black Sheep and a half of lime and lemon came to only £13.50 which seemed extremely good value.
We did not have to wait long outside before the sandwiches arrived, and we were tucking into some very nice food. The minute steak was perfectly cooked and very tender, and the ciabatta bread was lovely and crispy. The pork was also very good, and both came with a lovely green salad and French dressing and an extra side portion of chips, which were top notch. All in all the food was excellent and very enjoyable and it was extremely nice to take an hour off work and enjoy a quality pub lunch.
To sum up, it is hard to fault the Water Rat, Ripon. It serves good food, excellent beer and in nice surroundings whether you choose to sit inside or outside - highly recommended.
