The White Lion Inn, Cray - Wharfedale

The White Lion Inn, Cray, Wharfedale is probably one of the finest food pubs in the area and also one of the nicest with its lovely welcoming open fire as you walk through the front door. Originally a stop off for Drovers located beneath Buckden Pike, the White Lion Inn, Cray dates back to the seventeenth century and is decorated with souvenirs dating back over a hundred years (especially the original oak beams of the bar area). There is also stone flagged floors throughout the bar area and a very good selection of cask conditioned ales.
But where the White Lion Inn, Cray really shines is in its food, which is top notch. We first visited on a lunchtime and were treated to some wonderful Wensleydale cheese and white onion soup which was just the ticket after a morning's walk from Hubberholme following the course of the River Wharfe and on past Scar House. We were so impressed with the quality of food on offer that we booked in for an evening meal as well and were treated to some wonderful local gammon and sirloin steak. With the price of the sirlion steak at the White Lion Inn, Cray under £15 and the Gammon costing only £10, the pub really does offer very good value for money.
The White Lion Inn, Cray also do bed and breakfast and with 2010 tariff prices starting at just £55 for a single room and regular special deals, you will not find a better place to eat or stay in Wharfedale.
